what will move through the country weatherwise. there is a storm developing. if you're in san francisco, it has been a deluge of rain. as we toward tomorrow, watch san francisco once again get hit with rain. you can see that move through. it does move out by monday. monday, the west coast is dry. here's what we're really watching. this will be our christmas week storm more or less. area of low pressure will develop here in the gulf of mexico. we'll bring in moisture from the gulf. there develops that low. this is christmas. it may not be white, but it will be wet. perhaps in little rock and new orleans and birmingham and atlanta, down here into the deep south. if we can get enough cold air down here, we may mix in a few snow flurries. we're keeping an eye on how deep that cold air gets. it looks like that low will develop. and across the country here into the midatlantic and bring some snowwednesday, thursday timeframe into the northeast again. we'll have to keep an eye on that. the focus for today, the northeast, of course, some snow showers even around new york city perhaps today. but

be san francisco. bus there were rain delays there earlier today. but -- traffic slowing down a few of the other airports. according to flight aware.com so far only about 70 nights cancelled in the u.s. so far today. that's a big difference from thursday and provide when that storm blew through the plains and midwest and the northeast. forcing the cancellation of more than 6000 pilots. in places like chicago, detroit, and new york. some of the 84 million drivers were traveling this holiday season also faced treacherous roads, snow and ice may continue to be problem today in the northeast. places like upstate new york and pennsylvania and west virginia. there's good news for drivers. take a look at this. right now the national for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.24. that's much less than a month ago when the average was about $3.43. but it is about the same as a year ago. tens of millions of americans travel over the next few days, the travel conditions seem to be improving at least when compared to earlier in the week. alex? >> all right. appreciate that live report. we are going

here out of san francisco where a tree, big tree fell on a car here with the rain. it's not just been the rain but we have seen very windy conditions with some of these storms. and even into san francisco headed into the higher elevation. we see winds gusting over 100 miles per hour. big problems there back to your first alert forecast for the day today. into the northeast. that white where you see the snow. don't worry about that that's very very light. could cause a little bit of a dusting. may be on some brings and overpasses. be a little bit careful as you are driving today. not going to be any big problems. down to the southeast, the nice conditions continue, a ton of sunshine. very comfortable temperatures. we need rain here. unfortunately it doesn't look like we are going to get any significant rainy time soon. but, try to enjoy the nice temperatures. into the northern plains, also i will tell you we are talking about temps well above average all across the eastern two thirds of the country. that's going to be the case here into the northern plains. out across the west today a

not reporting many delays and there's a 15-minute delay in newark and not a huge problem. san francisco reported a bigger delay today due to rain. as we look at video from other parts of the country, from st. louis and from kansas city, there's not much of a problem there. there are some long lines and for the most part travelers have gotten to where they needed to go. there are other problems, however, in the northeast and places like upstate new york, virginia and pennsylvania. snow has snarled traffic there and there is some concern that on the west coast, as well, there could be issues. for the most part, traffic is doing much better today than it did in the past two days, thursday and friday. more than 1600 cancellations throughout the country and so far today only about 75 according to flight aware.com. again, here in atlanta, it could be a whole lot worse, richard. >> they have more runways and 405 will be more difficult. gabe gutierrez at the atlanta hartsfield international airport. we'll check back in with you, thanks. >>> egyptians are going back to the polls on the constitution. the

york, laguardia, jfk. boston as well. laguardia to newark to boston. san francisco has had four-hour delays. now 3 1/2 hours and it is weather-related there, too. ft. lauderdale is having a volume issue. this is the exiting storm, this rain that is leaving. skies are drying out but temperatures will drop precipitously. this is where the travel will really get tough. rochester, buffalo, six to 12 inches of knsnow coming for the. washington, baltimore, clears out for tomorrow and sunday. although it will still be windy. there's the heavy snow in western new york. driving i-90 through the weekend is really difficult. as we head towards sunday, this is the biggest travel headache from seattle all the way down to san francisco. northern california does some very heavy rain and wind for the next couple of days. lisa? >> sounds like everyone is going to have to really be patient as they try to get home for the holidays. >> yes. >> alexandra, thanks. it's not going to be easy but we'll see, hopefully it won't be too much of a travel headache. >> patience is important. lisa, thank you. >

is in san francisco because of some weather moving there. otherwise throughout the countritis looking pretty good. it's been pretty painless at major airports throughout the weekend. that is despite some high winds yesterday in the northeast which caused minor headaches over there. drivers across the country have been dealing with snow and ice in some parts of the country. but after thursday and friday, miserable weather there. prompted more than 1,600 cancellations throughout the country. this weekend has been a welcome relief for many of these travelers. what we'll need to watch is over the week ahead there will be a storm right now in the west coast and moving east. that will cause many disruptions across the country for many travelers and it's something they'll be watching. again right now, things are looking pretty good at the airport. back to you, alex. >> i'm sure that's music to many people's ears. thank you very much, gabe gutierrez. >>> straight ahead, the big three on the fiscal fight. does house speaker boehner have any more negotiating room with the president? a restaurant is ,
